About the Troupe
The "Big Lion Brother Family Puppet Troupe" was established in 2016 at the Liudui Hakka Cultural Park, under the Hakka Cultural Development Center of the Hakka Affairs Council. The troupe’s mascot, "Big Lion Brother," is inspired by the "Stone Lion Guardian" (Shishigong) found in Gaoshu Township, Pingtung County—part of the "Right Dui" (Right Battalion) region of Liudui. Drawing on stories from everyday Liudui Hakka life, the troupe has created numerous Hakka-language puppet plays for families. Through lively and entertaining performances, they showcase the language, music, and daily customs of the Liudui Hakka people, inviting families to connect with and develop an appreciation for Hakka culture through the magic of theater and interactive puppetry.
The troupe promotes culture through a dual approach: "Park Performances" and a "Touring Program." In addition to regular shows at the park, they travel to Hakka settlements, Hakka-language immersion schools, and local communities across Taiwan. By presenting accessible and educational theatrical performances, they foster cultural engagement and the transmission of the Hakka language.
The Big Lion Brother Family Puppet Troupe is dedicated to showcasing Hakka culture in a way that resonates deeply with everyday life. They look forward to collaborating with partners in education, culture, community development, and family-oriented sectors, hoping that through these performances, the first seeds of Hakka culture will be planted in the hearts of many children.
