Treasure hidden in Hakka villages —Liudui New Tea Special Exhibition

When our ancestors moved from their mountainous hometowns to Taiwan, they brought along tea seeds and tea processing technology. Originally, they planted tea for self-use but tea has eventually become a major cash crop for sale worldwide, for which the Hakka people have played a crucial role in the development history of tea industry in Taiwan.

The tea industry in Liudui area originated from the Hakka villages in northern Taiwan but has now developed its own features. For example, in the mountainous Right Dui area, there are Liouguei tea, Meinong tea and native camellia tea. Meanwhile, the Meinong's kiln and Leicha (tea grinding) also enrich the tea jigsaw puzzle for Right Dui, making Liudui tea spread a strong drift of Hakka flavor

First, "Big events in tea industry"

The Diary of Batavia City written by the Dutch recorded the discovery of tea trees in Taiwan in 1645. The Diary also roughly described the development of tea industry in Taiwan in a chronological manner.

Second, "Hakka tea fragrance"

Hakka people drink "tea" in almost every occasion in daily life, resulting in the natural integration and formation of Hakka tea culture.

Third, "Art of tea processing"

The processing of tea leaves varies according to tea varieties. It can be mainly divided into the following steps: sunlight withering, indoor withering and stirring, kill-green, rolling and kneading, and drying.

Fourth, "Slow-living corridor"

The slow-living corridor consisting of Liouguei tea, Meinong kiln, and tea culture along the Provincial Highway #3 gives you a great opportunity to get a feel for slow-living philosophy by sipping different tea varieties offered by Hakka villages in northern and southern Taiwan.

Fifth, "Lingering tea flavors"

There are traditions and innovations in the development of Taiwan tea. Under the guidance of Hakka Affairs Council, the Hakka characteristic industries in Right Dui area have now presented modern Hakka tea culture to you.
